Three Simple Ways To Up Your Sustainability Game

April is Earth Month and you don't need us to tell you that we all need to get better at sustainability. So don't worry, we won't 😉
We will, however, offer you some simple ways that you can be more sustainable. They are fun, we promise you'll learn something, and they will give you something great to share with someone else!

I like to think of getting better at sustainability like a journey: you know where you want to end up, but you also know that there are endless things that need to happen in order for you to get there. And when you think about all of those things that need to happen, you may be tempted to give up the dream or idea - simply because it's too overwhelming.

There's no need to give up or get stuck in your anger at the things that seem out of your control. But burying your head in the rapidly advancing desert sand won't help, either.

Whether you are just starting to take notice of the state of our world, or you are a seasoned pro at seeking a more sustainable lifestyle, we all know that what got us "here" wont't get us "there".

This year, the theme for Earth Day is "Invest in our Planet". Investment happens in many ways, and we love all of them. But the first place to start is with ourselves.

So instead of staying in panic mode (or worse yet, pretend-its-alright-mode) why not take steps, one by one, to live and think more sustainably?

Here's three simple ways to get better at doing what you do best: being you.

1. Take a few minutes to learn something new about sustainability.

Learning doesn't have to be boring - or old school.

In fact, the more engaging it is, the more you will be able to use the information you learn.

In honour of Earth month, we challenge you to try some of these fun and inspiring quizzes that Earth Day has created. They will help you make sense of the numbers in a way that relates to your life - and they really are good!

We suggest starting with this quick quiz on Sustainable Fashion.

2. Plant a Tree

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, "I wonder how I can plant a tree?"

Ok, maybe not.

However, if you are actually wondering how to plant a tree, we have the perfect idea 🙂

Where you live right now is of no importance to your potential tree planting prowess. Live on the 35th floor? No worries.
Wondering about by-laws that could hinder your tree planting urge? There's an answer for that too.

It's called Canopy and we love it!

For as little as $1,
you can be part of the tree planting army.

Trees are the best carbon capturing machines in our world and we can all do something now to help them continue to do what they do best.

3. Be part of the Great Global Cleanup

Quote by Socrates: The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new.

Over a billion people have joined in on the global clean up.

Are you one of them?

I have personally been part of cleanups for most of my life. I've met new friends, learned about parts of the world that I wouldn't have otherwise seen, and had the good old fashioned do-good feeling in my soul as a result.

To register one or find one near you, check out The Great Global Cleanup.

The bottom line, dear friends, is that the only way things change is if people like you and me decide they are going to change, first.

Happy Earth Month!
